Spotts Park (401 S. Heights Blvd.) offers more than 16 acres located between Waugh and Memorial where visitors can take advantage of basketball and volleyball courts, a children’s playground, walking trails and picnic area, as well as the numerous exercise classes held there on a regular basis.
And speaking of exercise, District H Crossfit (1044 Studewood) offers classic Crossfit taught by certified instructors in a convenient location on Studewood near 11th. If being at one with nature is more your thing, check out the Hike and Bike Trail that explores White Oak Bayou and beyond.
If you love opera, Opera in the Heights (1703 Heights Blvd.) offers terrific performances of both classic and rarely performed operas in the loveliest intimate setting imaginable. Nizza Mosaic Studio (1331 Studewood) isn’t just a gallery—it also offers classes, including their popular evening BYOB “Mosaics & Merlot.”
For local art, check out First Saturday Arts Market (548 W. 19th St.), a monthly outdoor art event offering food, live music and art display.
Finally, don’t miss Thursday-Night Bingo at the SPJST Lodge 88 (1435 Beall St.). Not just for seniors, games start at 7:30pm, but get there early (doors open at 5:15), grab a burger and a beer (you can bring your own wine or liquor) and claim your spot. They fill up practically every week and have to turn folks away!
